Newsletter 20

Dear Member,

This is a special edition of the electronic update of BairnsTrust activities.

If you are reading our newsletter for the first time ... welcome to BairnsTrust as a new member! If regular receivers, welcome back to the new season to our renewed members. If you wish to review some of our previous newsletters they can be visited at the following section of the website ...
The Trust take this opportunity to thankyou all for joining for the next year and appreciate all those that made a donation to the contingency fund and/or requested one of our new, eagerly awaited, BairnsTrust 2006-07 Polo/T-shirt, samples coming soon! Too many to mention individually, but very much appreciated. It has been assumed that all under 16s that have joined have done so with full parental/guardian consent.

You are cordially invited to attend the monthly BairnsTrust meeting in the Warm Up Area of the Falkirk Community Stadium on Monday 21/08/06, KO 7.30pm, where guest speaker will be the return of Tom Elliott of Falkirk's Football in the Community Department.

Feel free to convene before or after the meeting in the Amarillo Bar Bistro.
There will be a full agenda for discussion, but if you have any concerns you wish to raise, please respond to either or post your query on the message board at our website and we will try to cover on the night.

If you are unable to attend, the minutes from the meeting will appear on our website 7-10 days later for your perusal.
Your Committee have been busy over the close season and now refreshed after the pre-season Holland tour exploits are eager to progress any issues you may raise and have numerous new fundraising ideas to reveal over the coming months. Already this season we have helped arrange the supporter's meeting at the stadium on Wednesday 16/08/06 that may become a regular occurrence and have solved a long running damaged season ticket holder seat issue!

3,500 of the Trust's Application Forms went out with the new season ticket mailing and there has been a constant stream of completed documents returned. If you know of any others interested in joining please download a form for their consideration and completion.

Already noted is an increase in the number supplying an email address, from 47% last season to now standing at 61% of total membership. This is the medium the Trust prefer to keep our membership informed of updates and events.

Over the Summer, each Committee Member was tasked with targeting 4 or 5 potential Corporate Members, hoping they will join us, with the main benefit of achieving 2006-07 SPL Advertising for £100 with BairnsTrust!" To date the response has not been as anticipated. If you know of any business that would also be interested, please respond by your preferred contact method below.

The workload involved above has prompted BairnsTrust to seek another Secretary who will be able to help with the numerous letters we fire out to other clubs with our members concerns as well as compiling the detailed minutes of our monthly meetings.

There is still a further vacancy available on the Committee for anybody who also wishes to be co-opted on. If you have any skills that would be beneficial to the running of the Trust, e.g. secretarial, administration, legal, IT, desktop publishing, printing, etc. please respond by your preferred contact method below.

Nominations can be taken ahead of, or on the night of the forthcoming monthly meeting for any of the above.
Once again the hospitality provided by the Dee4 Life Trust at the league opener v Dundee Utd on Saturday 29/07/06 was greatly enjoyed with a full house in the Dens Park Lounge. Their representatives inform us that along with Hearts, Hibs and a couple of others we are the only SPL clubs that take up their offer and provide good numbers in return making it a worthwhile venture when we are in town.

The BairnsTrust Committee at their meeting on Monday 14/08/06 commenced a working relationship with the new caterers Alchemy Inns Ltd and have some exciting plans ahead. Indeed the Committee have already helped distribute mailshots on behalf of Alchemy Inns Ltd, informing previous Corporate Hospitality guests of the new £35 plus VAT deal now available. As well as being briefed on the aims of the new caterers which the Trust hope to back wholeheartedly, already agreed with immediate effect is the provision of upstairs at Pennies Bar as a reciprocal pre-match hospitality area for Trust members of VISITING fans. BairnsTrust hope to provide a similar deal as we receive at Dundee and accordingly raise good funds from this venture. We will be looking for some BairnsTrust members to help this succeed by being in attendance and mingling with like minded individuals of opposition clubs.

The initial supporter's meeting on Wednesday 16/08/06 went down well with representatives of many FFC supporter's clubs and bus convenors present. Interestingly about 70% of those in attendance are BairnsTrust members as well. The highlights of the two and a half hour meeting were the 6 point, 5 year business plan model, manager John Hughes' synopsis and the introduction of an International Development Official taking the Falkirk FC brand ... globalwide! There was also mention made of the recent unacceptable abuse of FFC staff. A reminder to all our members that FFC employees are entitled to carry out their duties without the threat of intimidation or violence.

Another venture we are starting from this Saturday 19/08/06 v Kilmarnock is the sale of current season programmes. For the many avid collectors in our membership who don't always make games, we will have a small stock of this season's AWAY programmes for sale at our stall on the concourse on matchdays. These will be sold at cover price to members on production of their membership card, with all funds going to our Contingency Fund. No "keep in reserve" or "advance orders" will be taken.

To launch this we have 15 copies of the Dutch pre-season game v t Fean '58 at Surhuisterveen on Thursday 13/07/06 available. Although originally free, they will be sold at £2 each on a first come, first served basis on production of your membership card. There is also ONE full set of all FOUR Holland friendly programmes. We have decided to auction the set to the highest bidder. Please advise us of your bid by your preferred contact method below. A couple of copies of our 2006-07 SPL away fixtures to date are already available.

The Club, in conjunction with BairnsTrust have arranged a small programme fair for aficionados on Sunday 24/09/06 at the Falkirk Stadium. Some of the leading programme dealers will be in attendance, so get your "wants" list prepared now!

We have also managed to obtain some merchandise from the SPL Communications Department of the Bank of Scotland. Similar to what the Motherwell Trust did when we visited last season for the "Maggies Day" we aim to raffle these to away fans when the relevant club comes to town in an attempt to raise further funds for BairnsTrust. A draft advertising message for those club's Supporter's/Trust websites, match programmes and local newspapers is being compiled. The first such promotion will be v Aberdeen on Saturday 16/09/06.

The Trust was contacted by "" a new, locally based, one stop site, which lists all websites from Falkirk clubs and organisations as well as sites which give information about the Falkirk area; local history, what’s on, the weather etc. They have included a link to our own website for no charge. See what else is on offer at:

On the back of this we have also now been given free advertising space on a general football supporter's website. Again see our link in the "Red Pages SPL Section" and surf what else is on offer. Fantastic games to play!

At our April meeting we were pleased to have Bert Moorhouse from Glasgow University who is working on behalf of the Scottish Executive who have now set up working groups following the "Summit on Sectarianism." Bert was consulting various groups including supporters to ascertain their views on Sectarianism. Bert thanked BairnsTrust for their contribution to his working remit. He went away to compile a separate, detailed, minute of the discussion and would forward to the Trust. The minute has now been received.

Bert apologises profusely for the very late issue of this minute the result of his diversion into chasing up the supporters of some of the other clubs. However the first round of discussions have now taken place with the supporters of all 17 clubs and he presented some interim "findings" at the end of June to a meeting at Hampden Park, which included top officials of the SFA and SportScotland, senior police officers and top civil servants, so our views are getting heard where they might do some good.

We are again financing the Tom Jamieson Memorial Trophy 5-a-side Tournament involving pupils from Carrongrange School. The event was well appreciated in its inaugural year of 2005. Tom Elliott has still to inform us of a suitable date at the stadium before we proceed, but having invited Tom to be a guest speaker at our Monthly meeting he will not be allowed to leave until a date for this competition is agreed!

For the benefit of our many Sharesavers, ALL claims were submitted to the Club by the due end of May deadline. ALL were subsequently ratified by the club on 31/07/06 and ALL certificates returned to the BairnsTrust Treasurer by post on 03/08/06. ALL were checked over and re-distributed to each member within the week and ALL should hopefully have now received their shareholding by the time you read this. Those that requested refunds of contributions will also ALL have now been settled. If this is not the case please contact the Trust by your preferred contact method below. If you now longer wish to contribute to the scheme it is your responsibility to stop your standing order with your financial institution.

One member is willing to sell his 400 shareholding if any other members are interested in purchasing. Negotiations would have to be undertaken between the seller, buyer and the Club, but the Trust would help establish initial contact.

If any member can advise on the whereabouts of BairnsTrust Member Duncan McPherson, formerly of Newpark Road, St Ninians, Stirling this would be appreciated. He has seemingly moved and not informed the Trust of his new address. We require to contact him urgently. Also require to contact Rod Moore of Rosebank Avenue, Falkirk and John McCreadie formerly Waggon Road, Brightons but may now reside at Rae Street, Stenhousemuir. There are also a couple of others, who despite being contacted at their last known address have failed to reply. If you are one of them again please respond by your preferred contact method below!

All football Trusts in the UK were contacted by a student from the University of Edinburgh at the end of last year. BairnsTrust completed the questionnaire included. At the time we had received a draft, electronic dissertation on ... "An Exception to the Norm? The Distinguishing Features of the UK Football Industry". However it was still subject to marking and could not be circulated to a wider audience. It has now been completed and the student graduated with a 2.1 Honours degree.

Our colleagues in BairnsAID have their Blue Brothers Tribute night this Saturday 24/08/06 in the Falkirk Town Hall. Please see members of BairnsAID or you can still purchase tickets at £18 (excluding booking fee) from the Steeple Box Office. They can also be bought on the night at the venue. Watch out for an appearance by the Blues Brothers v Kilmarnock on the afternoon of Saturday 24/08/06! Visit their website to see what is in store:

The draw will be made at Monday's Trust meeting for the first few Boardroom Experience winners and will be announced at the Motherwell game on Saturday 26/08/06. The first winner will be invited into the Boardroom v Aberdeen on Saturday 16/09/06. At this same fixture the £100 club shop voucher winner will be drawn live on the pitch at half-time. Get your friends and family to join immediately to be included in these draws. Please note that winners will have to be over 16.

Finally, if you have any topics or articles you wish to be included in future BairnsTrust Electronic Newsletters, please respond by your preferred contact method below.

Look forward to seeing you at the monthly meeting where there will be a chance to win a prize for attendees!
