A Happy New Year from all at BairnsTrust!
If you are reading our newsletter for the first time ... welcome to BairnsTrust as a new member! If you wish to review some of our previous newsletters they can be visited at this section of the website ...
The Trust would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for joining for the new season and appreciate all those that made a donation to the contingency fund, too many to mention individually, but very much appreciated. It has been assumed that all persons under 16 years of age that have joined, have done so with full parental/guardian consent.
You are cordially invited to attend the monthly BairnsTrust meeting in the Warm Up Area of the Falkirk Community Stadium on Mon 15/01/07, KO 7.30pm, where guest speaker will be Director Rodger Crosswaite who will run over the detailed presentation given to attract potential FFC shirt sponsors.
Feel free to convene before or after the meeting in the Amarillo Bar Bistro.
There will be a full agenda for discussion, but if you have any concerns you wish to raise, please respond either here or post your query on the message board at our website and we will try to cover the issue on the night.
If you are unable to attend, the minutes from the meeting will appear on our website 7-10 days later for your perusal.
BairnsTrust are delighted to announce the signing of our third Corporate sponsor of the season ... JH Kilt Hire Ltd of 13 York Arcade, Grangemouth, Tel. 01324 489196. Catering for all Highland and formal wear and with Burns Night fast approaching, now is the time to pay a visit. Jim is already a keen sponsor at Falkirk FC and we have been after him as a Trust participant for some time now.
Following the visit from our "NorwegiBairn" versus Rangers on 03/12/06 or friends in the Sports section of the Falkirk Herald took the opportunity to provide continued publicity of the Trust by including in Wednesday 3rd January's issue, a detailed article on Jostein's visit. If you missed the edition, it appeared on the Herald's website on Thursday 4th January 2007...
What you may not have known is that within hours of the story hitting the news stands, Jostein had a call from a newspaper in Bergen (Bergens Tidende), who were keen to do a similar article. On Fri 05/01/07 this article appeared in print, No translation necessary! Watch this space, Norwegian TV may be next!
BairnsTrust are also glad to announce the relaunch of our website. Information on Meeting Minutes and Newsletters can be found in the relevant sections which are currently up to date. We have made many new additions including a games room, the new online shop, ticket sales for our future events and now the facility to pay for all products and membership by "Paypal!"
The Trust now have a stock old Falkirk FC HOME and AWAY programmes from this season for sale at £2 each. Will also soon have some rarely available team sheets to compliment these. Please visit the stall for your requirements.
Copies of the new Silly Connolly CD which has not yet been released (release date is March 2007, sales of the CD are going well. Lasting nearly an hour and containing 21 sketches and songs the Trust have benefited from the stock we have obtained with all profits going directly to the Trust. Copies at £8 each can be purchased by your preferred contact method below.
We have also obtained a signed copy of Trust member Michael White's "Book of FFC Lists" to offer as a prize at a future Trust event. Copies can still be bought at our stall on the concourse in the Main Stand at home games.
Unfortunately for those who requested one of our BairnsTrust 2006-07 Polo/T-shirts, the printers in Manchester are no longer able to supply and our attempts with a Stirling producer have also proved fruitless. This has prompted the Trust to now seek an alternative. We will now be producing a slightly more expensive 2007 t-shirt for the mass market. This will be a unique design. When available, existing members can either have their £4 knocked off the price of the shirt or be entitled to a full refund, in cash, by visiting the stall on matchdays, where your details will be checked and a note of refund taken.
One topic of discussion at last month's meeting was the helping out of the Junior Bairns on matchday. Having been storing their stock in our cabinet, the Trust have now purchased and donated a table for their own pitch on the concourse, in the Main Stand at home games.
Trust Committee Members helped the Club over the festive holidays move stock from the old Howgate shop to the new premises. Thanks also to the Members who came along as well.
A rigorous training regime meant the BairnsTrust Committee were primed to take part in a 10 second challenge on the Tannadice pitch at half time during our New Years Day fixture, versus the ArabTrust Committee. Unfortunately the Dundee Utd Trust were unable to arrange in time with their Club so the challenge had to be cancelled. Our Boardroom Reps were however able to discuss at length both of our Trust's activities and we have obtained a copy of their glossy brochure packed full of ArabTrusts' community events and fundraising ideas. A couple of these initiatives we have attempted to poach in the transfer window!
We also had numerous Committee of BairnsTrust at Shielfield Park on Saturday 6th January 2007. BairnsTrust Representative Directors were in the boardroom and had a healthy discussion with their Chairman on the merits of having fans representation on the board of football clubs and in particular discussed how this was working effectively at Falkirk Football Club. BairnsTrust Chairman was in the main stand and our Social Convenor and Assistant Social Convenor mention that Berwick FC's corporate hospitality was exceptional! Unbeknown to both, BairnsTrust Treasurer briefly met and spoke with BRST Treasurer Gordon Dickson when he popped into the Berwick Rangers shop at full time where Gordon was manning the stall. Obtained a copy of their Winter 2005/6 Trust Members Newsletter ... some interesting articles, especially the "Who's in Charge?" section on club shareholding where their Trust feature strongly and a picture of Neil Oliver at the Trust New Year Party.
Proving to be quite lucky to be a Trust Member at the moment as Falkirk FC's 50:50 draw v Inverness CT on Saturday 30th December 206 was won by a syndicate of members, rapidly followed by another scooping the half-time draw booty in the raid over the border to Berwick on Saturday 6th January 2007
The draw for the next round of "Boardroom Experience" winners will be made at our meeting of Monday 15th January 2007, so new members are still eligible.
Our Social Committee have been busy arranging the 2007 Community events. At the Trust's Committee meeting on Thursday 4th January 2007, The first of these will be the return of the highly successful Quiz Night, pencilled in for Thursday 15th February 2007. The details of which will be confirmed at our Monthly Meeting on Monday 15th January 2007.
Keep your diary free for the next Community event on Friday 16th March 2007!
For those who have been following the progress from our April 2006 monthly Meeting, when we had Bert Moorhouse from Glasgow University, as a guest speaker. Bert was working on behalf of the Scottish Executive who had set up working groups following the Summit on Sectarianism. The culmination of this can be viewed online either here or here...
Bairnfica FC (aka The OneF Football Team) is now up and running. They are doing really well as a team, meet up regularly and have some cracking players! They have entered the Scottish Supporters Mini-League with a view to entering the main Scottish Supporters Football League
Previous notification of their fundraising night has now been superseded by a change of date to Friday 2nd February 2007 at the Gordon Lounge, KO at 7pm. Advert below/attached.
BairnsTrust are delighted to announce that in conjunction with Falkirk FC we will become sole agents for the launch of the new 1876 club. This will be a live, public, monthly draw for top prizes in return of a standing order of £10:00 per month. The more members who join the bigger the prizes will become and the Trust will benefit financially as a result. We would encourage you to join, and application forms will be available at the BairnsTrust stall, located on the concourse in the Main Stand at home games.
Falkirk Football Club's AGM will be held on Thursday 1st February 2007, and all shareholders will have been contacted by now. BairnsTrust will be in attendance as a shareholder in their own right and we hope to see many of our "Sharesavers" there as well. There is an interesting resolution to be voted on regarding authorised shares. BairnsTrust will debate this at our Monthly Meeting on Monday and you can submit your view for consideration.
BairnsTrust's own AGM is now scheduled for our April meeting on Monday 16th April 2007.. We are in negotiations with our friends in ShireTrust for one of their Committee Members to act as neutral invigilator with our own Membership Secretary willing to reciprocate at the ShireTrust AGM. More details will follow in the coming months on our website, newsletters and in the press.
Finally, if you have any topics or articles you wish to be included in future BairnsTrust Electronic Newsletters, please respond by your preferred contact method below.
One such intimation from a member was for the inaugural "BairnTrain Special" to Berwick for the Scottish Cup tie. If you missed the notice, can still be viewed here ...
Many took advantage of the bargain £6 fare from Edinburgh, thus slipping through the heightened Northumbria Police cordon! In an effort to "gauge" reaction, if this mode of transport interests you for future games, please contact us by your preferred contact method below and we can pass on your details.
We have also received the following appeal ...
Writing to enquire if any fellow BairnsTrust Members could possibly help. Currently work for Shelter the Homelessness Charity based in South Lanarkshire. Our project team are working with a number of young boys who through no fault of their own are currently homeless and living with their parents in temporary accommodation. As a consequence of this they have very little personal belongings. They are like most young kids, obsessed by football but find it difficult because of their current situation to keep up with things in the football world. It is with this in mind I ask if any Trust Members would be willing to donate any old football magazines from the last year that we could pass on to these kids, eg. Shoot, Match Weekly, English/Scottish Club Magazines, Rangers News, Celtic View, Hearts Weekly ... and the like would be ideal.
Would appreciate any assistance offered and any documents could be handed into the BairnsTrust stall located on the concourse in the Main Stand at home games for uplift.
Look forward to seeing you at the next monthly meeting where there will be a chance to win a prize for attendees!
