Newsletter 45

If you are reading our newsletter for the first time ... welcome to BairnsTrust as a new member. If you wish to review some of our previous newsletters they can be visited at this section of the website...
The Trust take this opportunity to thank all for joining for the new season and appreciate all those that made a donation to the contingency fund, too many to mention individually, but very much appreciated. It has been assumed that all under 16s that have joined have done so with full parental/guardian consent.
You are cordially invited to attend the monthly BairnsTrust meeting in the Warm Up Area of the Falkirk Community Stadium on Mon 21/01/08, KO 7.30pm.
There will be a full agenda for discussion, but if you have any concerns you wish to raise, please respond to either or post your query on the message board at our website and we will try to cover on the night.
If you are unable to attend, the minutes from the meeting will appear on our website later for your perusal on these pages

Wishing all our Members a Happy New Year as both Falkirk FC and BairnsTrust continue in tandem to build and 2008 looks to one of the best years yet for both of us.

Following the success of Football For All's "Kick Out Bigotry(KOB)" event at the Category A game v Rangers on Saturday 24th November 2007 and our new connection with Central Scotland Racial Equality CSRE surplus promotional Z-cards are to be snapped up for redistribution by CSRE.

The Trust took some photos of the day and these will appear on our website soon. However they were submitted along with a 150-word after event summary. True Hearts Against Bigotry (THAB) and the Motherwell Trust have also given their summaries and these appear on the Kick Out Bigotry site. You still have time to sign the online pledge or click the logo on our website for a direct link to read more details.

Thanks to our friends at the Falkirk Herald newspaper for picking up on our monthly electronic newsletters and including the main topics as a regular feature to their readership. BairnsTrust have some new, exciting ideas for 2008 that will be some of the biggest ventures we have undertaken and we know the Falkirk Herald will be keen to mention.

Following the early announcement by Falkirk FC of the pre-season tour back to Holland for the third consecutive year from Wednesday 9th July 2008 until Tuesday 15th July 2008, we are now seeking numbers for the “BairnsTrust Go Dutch” tour package. The Trust already had a practice run last year and depending on numbers will be able to announce prices early. If you are considering travelling, please intimate via our email contact address at or visit our matchday stall. Find preliminary details on the package at the monthly BairnsTrust meeting in the Warm Up Area of the Falkirk Community Stadium on Monday 21/01/08, KO 7.30pm.

Similar to our previous connections with former SPL sponsors Bank of Scotland, a recent Trust Boardroom experience winner met two representatives of the new League sponsors; Clydesdale Bank. Having been explained to the aims and goals of the Trust the Bank is keen to assist and will be willing to donate signed memorabilia for our fundraising needs.

The next round of the popular Boardroom Experience Draws takes place at the monthly BairnsTrust meeting in the Warm Up Area of the Falkirk Community Stadium on Mon 21/01/08, KO 7.30pm. Join by this weekend to be included. Feedback from previous winners shows this is an exceptional, “once in a lifetime opportunity” for our membership. The draw will take us up to the league split, thereafter the final draw will hopefully be for the remaining top-six fixtures.

BairnsTrust still have a vacancy that requires to be filled on the Committee of the position of Secretary following the resignation of the previous occupant. If you wish to be co-opted to this office-bearer post, please feel free to attend the next Monthly Meeting on Mon 21/01/08 or make your intentions known by email to

Falkirk FC have now sent out their AGM pack’s to members and shareholders respectively with the date set for Thursday 07/02/08, 7pm at the Stadium. If you gained shares via the BairnsTrust Sharesave scheme you should receive FFC details without a problem as your details will have been recorded accurately. If no pack has been received, please contact the Club direct as an individual, private shareholder. However, if you are unable to attend and wish to donate your proxy vote to BairnsTrust, please complete the form in the pack and send back to the Club. You can then advise the Trust, by any of your preferred contact methods below, on any specific way you wish to vote on the Agenda points raised and this will be considered or added to BairnsTrust's own voting rights.

BairnsTrust will also be holding our own AGM soon. We are obliged to give at least 8 weeks notice of our intention to hold our annual AGM and accordingly are delighted to announce that the Warm Up Area of the Falkirk Community Stadium on Monday 21st April 2008, is the date which has been set. KO 7.30pm

The Trust will again be seeking candidates for the Committee and nominations for the new Associate Director/Trust Rep on the FFC Board. This post is open to any current member of the Trust, regardless of previous history or involvement in your Trust.

The Trust also invite tenders for an Independent Examiner of the BairnsTrust "Annual Accounts." A one-page Letter of Engagement document can be obtained by contacting us by email at This new style of reporting on the Trust's finances was passed at our last AGM, similar to that adopted by a number of other Trusts and has been ratified by the Financial Services Authority. The position of Independent Examiner can be carried out by anyone with a financial background, not necessarily qualified and will simply be reviewing the set of financial statements already produced by the Trust Treasurer for the financial year ended 30/09/07.

If you attended the match down at Kilmarnock on Wed 02/01/08 and happened to purchase their fanzine the "Killie Hippo" you would have spotted an interesting article on the trials and tribulations of the KillieTrust.

Show your 2007/08 BairnsTrust Membership card to our Corporate sponsors and you may get a discount! Only £100 per season for SPL advertising or why not invest in banner space on the home page of our website. More details from an email to

The Andy Lawrie Testimonial Programme between Falkirk FC and Sunderland FC on the evening of Thu 15/11/07 at the Stadium is still available with all funds still going to the Testimonial Fund. Recollect the match report here  ...

The programmes for sale at the stall are received by generous donations from numerous persons and are not from hospitality as has been suggested. The Trust gratefully acknowledge donations from the private collections of J Gardiner, P Mosson, C Christie, M Ritchie, D Paterson, A Totten and periodically from matchday staff, BairnsTrust Members and Committee. Such gestures are much appreciated and provide the Trust with a valuable income stream.

Falkirk FC has allowed BairnsTrust to become an Official Matchday Programme vendor using our stall on the concourse in the Main Stand at home games as the point of sale. We will cater for those who wish to buy INSIDE the Stadium pre-match and in return the Trust will receive the standard “seller’s fee” in return. This is proving a great success so far. We urge Members to purchase their copy from the stall to allow the Club to monitor how successful and necessary this point of sale is.

Signed stocks of Michael White's new "Falkirk Bairns Volume 4 1994-2007" book on the Trust stall have been going extremely well. The Trust receives a generous commission from the author for this which is much appreciated. Encourage you to purchase your copy from BairnsTrust. If you wish to place an advance order, intimate via our email contact address at or visit our stall or Online Shop
