Newsletter 47

If you are reading our newsletter for the first time ... welcome to BairnsTrust as a new member. If you wish to review some of our previous newsletters they can be visited at this section of the website...

The Trust take this opportunity to thank all for joining for the new season and appreciate all those that made a donation to the contingency fund, too many to mention individually, but very much appreciated. It has been assumed that all under 16s that have joined have done so with full parental/guardian consent.

You are cordially invited to attend the Hustings Night in the Warm Up Area of the Falkirk Community Stadium on Mon 17/03/08, KO 7.30pm. There will be no Monthly Meeting as a result.

There will be a full agenda for discussion, but if you have any concerns you wish to raise, please respond to either bairnstrust@hotmail.co.uk or post your query on the message board at our website and we will try to cover on the night.

If you are unable to attend, the Minutes from the meeting will appear on our website later for your perusal here ...

Following the early announcement by Falkirk FC of the pre-season tour back to Holland for the third consecutive year from Wed 09/07/08 – Tue 15/07/08 and the subsequent application to apply for the InterToto Cup, unfortunately our proposed “BairnsTrust Go Dutch” tour package has had to be shelved due to the uncertainty caused. No fixtures have been arranged yet and could be as late as one month before the trip and even then are subject to change as the Dutch agent works on the fine details. Hotels and air flights could have been held off until nearer the time but this would push the package price up.

The 2008 BairnsTrust AGM will take place on Mon 21/04/08 in the Warm-Up area of the Falkirk Stadium, 7.30pm.

BairnsTrust still have a vacancy that requires to be filled on the Committee of the position of Secretary following the resignation of the previous occupant. Current Committee Members have had temporary spells covering the role alongside their own duties. If you wish to be co-opted to this office-bearer post, please feel free to attend the AGM on Mon 21/04/08 or make your intentions known by email to bairnstrust@hotmail.co.uk

The Trust was again seeking candidates for the Committee and nominations for the new Associate Director/Trust Rep on the FFC Board have closed. This post was open to any current member of the Trust, regardless of previous history or involvement in your Trust.

Key dates for your diary are:

The Trust currently has with our Independent Examiner the BairnsTrust "2007 Annual Accounts." This new style of reporting on the Trust's finances was passed at our last AGM, similar to that adopted by a number of other Trusts and has been ratified by the Financial Services Authority. The position of Independent Examiner can be carried out by anyone with a financial background, not necessarily qualified and will simply be reviewing the set of financial statements already produced by the Trust Treasurer for the financial year ended 30/09/07.

The latest round of the popular Boardroom Experience Draws took place at the monthly BairnsTrust meeting on Monday 21/01/08, KO 7.30pm. Winners drawn were:

Sat 16/02/08 v St Mirren – S Traynor, Falkirk.

Sat 01/03/08 v Motherwell – R Stowe, Stenhousemuir.

Sat 29/03/08 v Kilmarnock – J Jenkins, Falkirk.

One of the reserves was called up and all attendees have remarked on how enjoyable the experience was.

The BairnsTrust Former Player Association is still being well attended by the ex-players from the past appearing in Amarillo Lounge. They will be there to meet and greet you and reminisce about their spells at the club. A busload were taken by the Club recently to view the team training at the University of Stirling and were in awe of the facilities available to the modern player. Recent attendees included

Various questions are fielded by the Trust between meetings and they are duly discussed and taken to the highest level in the Club for response. Some recent topics can be found in the Minutes section of the website here

If you have a matter that requires the club to investigate further, contact the Trust in the first instance via bairnstrust@hotmail.co.uk

A successful night was had by all at Behind The Wall on Mon 10/03/08 as a number of Falkirk fans were entertained at the Falkirk FC Question Time in Aid of McMillan Cancer Support. The panel, hosted by ex-Stenhousemuir Manager Des McKeown, consisted of journalist's Bill Leckie and Gordon Waddell, John Hughes and Russell Latapy come on just before half-time for Darren Barr. A large number of questions were asked and admirably answered. The panellists' renditions of their favourite song provided even more entertainment. Top raffle prizes for a £10 fee were a Falkirk FC season ticket for 2008/09, hospitality for 4 at Westfield for an SPL match, provided by Alchemy Inns Ltd and a signed shirt. Close to £800 was raised for McMillan Cancer Support. Find out more about the Charity at the MacMillan Organisation

Bill Leckie and Gordon Waddell continue these events this time as guests of the Senior Bairns next week. Highly recommended if you are thinking of attending.

The Trust's own UEFA Champions League Fantasy Football Competition returned after the winter break with the "Round of last 16" teams. The BairnsTrust mini-league is up and running. Have Barhigdon, The Navy Blue and Calibairn fighting out the lead at the moment with The Accountant still up there as we go into the Quarter Final stages. The table will be posted on the message board after every round of games and will hopefully create more interest in our messageboard at the same time. As a result participants receive regular, emailed magazines direct from UEFA.

Why not visit the matchday stall for our “Discount Sale” where all programmes, including this season, are now only £1 each and you can still uplift your free BairnsTrust A4, colour, 2008 calendar. Just bring along your membership card. Also for our under 16 members you can collect a free "bargain bundle" of old matchday programmes. Again just bring along your membership card.

If you currently watch the games from the temporary stand, we are desperate to get over there to spread the BairnsTrust word and display the products we have for sale. However the logistics of moving stock from and back to the main stand before kick-off prove inhibitive. If there is any specific item/programme you require we can get to you at your convenience, simply inform before the next game by email to bairnstrust@hotmail.co.uk

We have recently doubled our stock of programmes and now cover each season back to the early nineties. Get your "wants" list prepared and see if we can assist. To allow more time to peruse our collection, the stall on the concourse is now open at half-time. Visit our online shop that has the NEW stock list of all our programmes for browsing ...

The programmes for sale at the stall are received by generous donations from numerous persons and are not from hospitality as has been suggested. The Trust gratefully acknowledge donations from the private collections of J Gardiner, P Mosson, C Christie, M Ritchie, D Paterson, A Totten, P Kidney and periodically from matchday staff, BairnsTrust Members and Committee. Such gestures are much appreciated and provide the Trust with a valuable income stream.

Falkirk FC has allowed BairnsTrust to become an Official Matchday Programme vendor using our stall on the concourse in the Main Stand at home games as the point of sale. We will cater for those who wish to buy INSIDE the Stadium pre-match and in return the Trust will receive the standard “seller’s fee” in return. This is proving a great success so far. We urge Members to purchase their copy from the stall to allow the Club to monitor how successful and necessary this point of sale is.

Again taking advance orders for the forthcoming International Friendly between Scotland and Croatia at Hampden Park on Wed 26/03/08. Please respond by your preferred contact method below.

Initial enquiries with Linlithgow Rose Juniors FC have revealed that there is unlikely to be a commemorative matchday programme for the upcoming Danny Smith Testimonial v Falkirk FC.
